This has been requested a few times and has already been incorporated into 1.5 ;)
:- "creation date" should be the date which the map was created in the directory
This might be a bit tricky, if MM was not run that often then a lot of new files would have the same date (when MM was run, found the new files and got the dates). If your thinking about changing the files dates when there being extracted to the current date then this would cause problems when updating that file using MM Smart Install feature which requires the creation date.

:- For what is the Cache?
Yes this is a big issue, I'm hoping to release a help file with MM 1.5 so hopefully people will take the time to read it. A lot of people have emailed in about the cache manager section due to not knowing how it works and having the right settings enabled.
All will be explained in the help file and there might even be a small little wizard for the cache converter added.
